Winter Storm 2010 | Day Three | Saturday II

And on the third day...they went to a Chocolate Festival.
What do a bunch of Sooners do on the third day of a governor declared State of Emergency?
They go to a Chocolate Festival
benefiting their Firehouse Art Center.
Folks throw down $30 (for the premium tasting), to sample area businesses' chocolate creations. We are talking 20+ businesses gather to give you more than should be sample size tastings of milk, dark, white, fluffy, creamy, nut, semi-sweet chocolate! Thanks to my friend, Kim, she had an extra ticket (her friend couldn't come up for Texas for the same reasons I couldn't drive down), and she doesn't mind to drive in this Mother Nature craziness. Score.
Me and my chocolate colored box....very impressed with this sweet box. Perfectly colored, by the way. Festival goers receive a box to carry/store/pack their samples in. Some goers bring their own containers. As in metal pans you cook a 17 lb turkey in. Not sure anyone needs that much chocolate. Even during a State of Emergency. Only thing I would have changed...bigger ribbon on the corner of the box. Go big or go home.
Just not as big as those metal pans.My favorite table at the Festival was Amy's Cakes.

All chocolate. Thank goodness I took in no calories by staring at these cakes. Such a talent. So is cake decorating.
The "other" cake exhibit, Sugar, was my second favorite. This display sign was the true theme of the morning. Lots and lots of sugar. It even smelled like sugar. I told Kim I should have starved myself Friday to allow for the upcoming caloric intake. I think the Biggest Looser will be calling soon. Thankfully I wont be able to answer since I'm back at the YMCA come Monday.

This was much prettier in person...it looked just like bamboo in person. Not sure what party I would schedule this one for...but good to know in Norman, America we have such options. No Neimans, but plenty of cookie/cake shops. Sadly, I've tasted them all. Not my fault I get around in a shower/invite/social way.
Another table with pretty flowers...it was so nice to see such spring colors in this winter zone.
After leaving Diabetes alley, we headed to lunch and just happened to drive by our first home (post dorm life) in Norman...our beloved chapter house and Fraternity.
Love those women of HOPE.
From lunch we decided to take a stroll around icy Historic Campus Corner.
My favorite gift shop in Campus Corner, Tulips. Closed. Probably a good thing...as if I need anything.
Without our trademark wind, it wasn't that cold walking around...just slick.
We took it slow and giggled as we resembled 50 year members of our beloved Greek organization, rather than the 20 and 14 (respectively) year members we are.

After lunch and shopping it was time to head to The Weymouth to gab, nibble on our chocolates, sip a red wine, and regroup for dinner at Iron Star. Such a wonderful day.

I am so thankful for the friend I have found in my DG sister, Kim. We met this past summer thru volunteering (it is a lifetime oath, peeps) and she is just a delight. So fun. A great conversationalist. Hysterical. Great taste. Dynamic and insightful. I am so thankful when God brings people into our lives at His perfect time. Especially a great girly girl to browse gift shops with...a good browser is hard to come by. Amazing how chocolate, a gift shop (or two), white cheddar Mac N' Cheese, and a dear sister...can make a State of Emergency livable. And, some wine.
