As I've said before one of my favorite roles in my life is being "Aunt Kate."
I take the role of aunt to the highest extent - just as my dear, dear aunties have.
I've thrown the baby showers, went to the hospital to see the little ones, organized meal trains, and happily attended first birthdays. Now, it's onto the really good stuff: recitals. From morning school assemblies to art shows to eating birthday lunches at school ... I love sharing in these moments with my collected nieces and nephews.
In mid May, my namesake, Kate, performed at her first piano recital.
I couldn't miss this moment in time as she tickled the ivory keys.
Actually, if you blinked you might have missed it. Kate's moment in time was 1.4 minutes. The whole recital (of 14 kids) was 33 minutes long. Beautiful. Not that I've been attended many piano recitals, but in my imagination they are much, much longer. I have enjoyed 2.5 hours of dance recitals...so I was prepared to enjoy a night of puttin' on the hits. Not so much.
I did giggle thinking of how much Kate's mother, Sunny, and all the other parents worked so hard for THIS moment...and in a moment...done. Life is just too fast.
I remember the night this little girl came into the world. Her parents called me and I raced up to the hospital to meet baby Kate. How can that be over eight years ago?
